“Fly and Float” Arcade Games for Social Impact

“Fly and Float” is an original custom-made Arcade machine with two interactive digital games designed to introduce children to the history of drinking water services in Historic Cairo. They shed light on the traditional professions that were once connected to Cairo’s water systems which have since disappeared, and the architecture of water and its social and cultural roles.

In collaboration with al-Khalfa’s children, Ahmad Hisham Saqfalhait and the development team worked for over a year and a half to produce these arcade-style games. To celebrate its launch, a lively Fun Day at the al-Khalifa Community Center was organized so the children can play “Fly and Float” and enjoy painting “qullal" (traditional clay water jugs) and drawing water-related elements.

“Fly and Float” with the Children of Al-Khalifa” is a non-profit project, supported by an internal academic grant from the American University in Cairo, awarded to Ahmad Hisham Saqfalhait and his colleague David Rafferty, and carried out in collaboration with Megawra.
